What is Biodynamic Massage? Biodynamic Massage is truly holistic working simultaneously on body and mind and helping to integrate them. It aims to free emotions and energy, which have been trapped in the body and return the body to equilibrium and harmony. It encourages the body's ability to heal itself. In health energy flows through our bodies freely. Stress may result in an imbalance of energy, causing blockages, which may lead to physical symptoms and eventually to ill health. Biodynamic massage helps to dissolve these blocks of accumulated tension and to maintain health and wellbeing. Biodynamic massage was developed by Gerda Boyesen in Norway in the 1960's. It is also based on Reichian theories, which maintain that the body and mind are closely linked and reflect each other. Benefits It can help resolve past issues, bring life changes, support deep calm, improved circulation, improve energy flow, relieve anxiety, improve sleep, ease depression, relieve pain, help with digestive disorders, enhance wellbeing, increase self-awareness and aid the connection with one's body. How does biodynamic massage work? It works at different levels: bones, muscles, tissue, skin and energy. The therapist applies the most appropriate techniques at the time. These may range from awakening the energy in the bone, encouraging the flow of tissue fluids, freeing trapped energy from muscles, enabling the free flow of energy, harmonising, holding, containing, soothing, supporting, nurturing. This encourages deep breathing and balance of functions like digestion, blood circulation and the nervous system, enabling recovery at physical, mental and emotional levels. What happens during a session? Initially I assess your needs on the basis of a brief discussion. Subsequently I use one or more of the techniques, as appropriate, working intuitively, using sensitive touch, listening to the body, for feedback and guidance. You may be encouraged to express feelings, sensations, images or insights that may arise. The first session lasts 90 minutes, subsequent sessions last one hour. Biodynamic massage is a process and for best benefits is advisable to be taken as a series of sessions on a regular basis. All sessions are treated with strict confidentiality. I was trained at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy, London, and have undertaken further postgraduate courses. I also hold a NCFE certificate in counselling. As a member of the Association of Holistic Biodynamic Massage Therapists, I abide by their professional code of ethics. Prices A session lasts 1 hour and costs £37. The first session takes 1 hour 30 minutes and costs £49. |
